Eugene Cooke is a composer from Dublin. Classically trained in piano during his school years, he later played drums in a number of rock bands before spending some years in the US. On returning to Ireland he became immersed in the Dance/Electronic music scene in the 90’s, released an EP and composed music for several short films. Having worked in IT for a long period Eugene decided to devote his time fully to composition and enrolled in MMT. A long- standing interest in film, together with the visual media aspects of MMT, has inspired Eugene to engage in visual art with music. “Work in progress” (haven’t come up with a name yet) is an electroacoustic visual music piece. The music was composed from recordings of everyday “found” sounds, as opposed to those from instruments. The visual accompaniment was made using pre-existing “found” video and stills. The work forges close relationships between what is heard and what is seen within the piece, converting the music or sound to visual forms.
