I HEAR A NEW WORLD \\
Andrew is a composer and electronic music producer from Wicklow. Having graduated with a BA in Physics and Chemistry of Advanced Materials from Trinity College in 2010, he decided to turn his attention to more creative activities through the production of electronic music and soundscapes. Joining the MMT course seemed like the next logical step, allowing him to develop both his technical and artistic skills. His main areas of interest include the combination of traditional musical styles with modern technology, and how such music can be performed through the use of software and hardware interfaces.
The Path (Above All Else)
“The Path” is a piece for voice and electronics that takes its basis from several styles of overtone singing. Through an investigation of the background and mechanics of these styles, a compositional structure for the piece was created. The electronic element of the piece is in the form of a type of granular synthesis that is utilised in vocal synthesis, but can also be used to create complex sound textures and timbres. The piece attempts to bridge the gap between traditional styles of singing and modern electroacoustic music technologies by embracing both. This project was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Dermot Furlong, with advice from Dr. Linda Buckley.
